Many businesses are interested in Microsoft Copilot, but interest alone does not produce measurable value.
A company can purchase licences, offer a short demonstration and encourage employees to experiment. That may generate excitement, but it does not automatically improve a business process.

The NFL did not start with a generic AI use case
Microsoft reported on 3 September 2026 that the NFL modernized game-day operations using an AI-powered Game Ops Dashboard built with Microsoft Copilot Studio and Microsoft Power Platform.
The solution standardizes incident reporting and supports long-term operational learning. Microsoft says this creates a more consistent and data-driven approach to stadium operations.
That distinction matters.
The NFL example is not simply about asking an AI assistant to write an email or summarize a document. It is about applying AI and automation to a defined operational challenge.
There was an existing process. That process generated information. People needed to report incidents consistently, learn from previous events and use the resulting information to improve future operations.
This is where AI adoption begins to become business transformation.
The lesson for MSPs and technology consultants
Many customers do not yet know which business processes are suitable for Copilot. They may ask about pricing, licences or features, but the larger opportunity is often hidden inside their daily work.
An MSP can help uncover that opportunity by asking practical questions:
- Where do employees repeatedly copy information between systems?
- Which reports take too long to prepare?
- Where are decisions delayed because information is scattered?
- Which processes rely on inconsistent emails or spreadsheets?
- Where do managers lack a clear operational view?
- Which customer or employee requests follow a repeated pattern?
These questions move the conversation away from “What can Copilot do?” and towards “Which business outcome should we improve?”
That is a far more valuable discussion.
Move beyond one-off prompts
Microsoft’s description of modern AI-enabled processes combines applications, workflows, business rules, data, human judgement and AI assistance. Microsoft argues that organizations can improve an entire process instead of adding AI to one isolated step.
For example, consider a service company that receives maintenance requests through email.
A basic Copilot use case might summarize a message.
A more complete workflow could help the organization:
- capture the request;
- identify the customer and equipment;
- find relevant service information;
- prepare a response;
- route the request to the appropriate employee;
- track the outcome; and
- retain useful information for future service calls.
The specific design would depend on the customer’s systems, permissions, data and operating procedures. However, the principle is consistent: connect several steps around a meaningful business outcome.
Adoption still requires people
Technology is only one part of successful Copilot adoption.
Employees need to understand why the workflow is changing, when to use AI, how to review its output and when a human decision is required. Managers need clear expectations and ways to measure progress.
Security also belongs at the centre of the project. Before connecting Copilot or an agent to business information, organizations should review data access, permissions, privacy requirements and responsible AI practices.
This is why effective Copilot implementation generally needs more than technical configuration. It requires business assessment, use-case prioritization, training, adoption support, governance and continuous improvement.
Start with one important process
The NFL example may involve a major sports organization, but the core idea can apply to companies of different sizes.
A construction business may want more consistent field reports. A professional services firm may want a better proposal workflow. A manufacturer may want to organize maintenance information. A nonprofit may want to improve volunteer or donor communications.
The scale may change, but the method remains practical:
Find one valuable process. Define the desired outcome. Review the data and risks. Build the workflow. Train the people. Measure what changes.
